The H Genome

An evidence-based model, never a fixed label.

The H Genome does not decide a learner "is" a visual learner or a maths person. It tracks what recent evidence actually shows, and updates every time new evidence arrives.

The H Genome: evidence sources feeding one evolving learner profile
What it holds

Eleven dimensions, all dated and evidenced.

  • Conceptual understanding

Whether the underlying idea is understood, not just the procedure.

  • Procedural accuracy

How reliably the steps of a method are carried out.

  • Reasoning & explanation

How clearly the learner can explain why an approach works.

  • Strengths

    Areas of consistent, well-evidenced competence.

  • Developing areas

Ideas that are partly there but not yet reliable.

  • Gaps

Prerequisite knowledge that appears to be missing.

  • Misconceptions

Specific wrong ideas that produce a repeated pattern of errors.

  • Transfer

Whether an idea learned in one context is applied in a new one.

  • Consistency

Whether performance holds up across time and question types.

  • Independence

How much support was needed to reach the right answer.

  • Progress

How each of the above is changing over recent weeks.

Confidence, not certainty

Every insight says how sure HybiLearn is.

A single odd answer is not treated the same as a pattern seen five times. Confidence grows with evidence and is always shown.

Possible misconception · developing evidence

Seen once, in one uploaded worksheet. HybiLearn will look for it again before acting on it strongly.

Recurring misconception · high confidence

Seen across 4 of 6 recent questions, one assessment and a HybiTutor chat. This drives the next Study Plan.

Learning patterns are described by what currently helps, for example "diagrams currently help with this topic," never as a fixed identity like "Sarah is a visual learner."

Evidence sources

Everything a learner does can count.

Answers submitted in lessons and practice
Typed reasoning and worked steps
Uploaded homework, worksheets and marked papers
Adaptive practice attempts
Formal assessments and mock papers
HybiTutor conversations
Change over time

Progress is a path, not a snapshot.

Each concept moves through stages as evidence accumulates. HybiLearn shows the current stage and the direction of travel.

1

Needs attention

Recent evidence shows this is not yet reliable.

2

Developing

Some evidence of progress, not yet consistent.

3

Improving

A clear, recent upward trend across evidence.

4

Secure

Consistently correct across varied, recent evidence.

Where it acts

The same profile shapes everything.

  • Learn. Lessons are pitched at what is currently secure, not the syllabus average.
  • Practice. Question difficulty and topic adapt as reasoning is revealed.
  • HybiTutor. Conversations open already aware of the current gap or misconception.
  • Assessments. Checks target exactly the ideas that need confirming.
  • Study Plan. Weekly focus is chosen from what evidence says matters most right now.
